The team at MercurySteam, comprised of former developers from Rebel Act Studios, brings a rich heritage to their latest project, *Blades of Fire*. The influence of their earlier work, the cult classic *Severance: Blade of Darkness* released in 2001, is evident in the new game. *Severance* was renowned for its innovative combat system that allowed players to dismember foes, adding a layer of brutality and realism to the experience. This pioneering approach has significantly shaped the vision for *Blades of Fire*.

In crafting *Blades of Fire*, MercurySteam drew inspiration from contemporary action-adventure games as well. Notably, the cinematic combat and richly detailed environments of the *God of War* reboot by Santa Monica Studio served as a benchmark. The team's goal was to meld fast-paced action with deep RPG mechanics, aiming to deliver an immersive and captivating gaming experience.

A standout feature of *Blades of Fire* is its innovative weapon crafting system. Players can forge their own blades, customizing attributes like length, weight, durability, and balance. This system empowers players to tailor their weapons to match their unique combat styles, enhancing personalization and strategic gameplay.

The narrative of *Blades of Fire* centers on the warrior Aran de Lira, who embarks on a perilous quest against a cunning queen with the power to transform metal into stone. Throughout his journey, Aran will encounter 50 distinct enemy types, each demanding a tailored combat strategy.

*Blades of Fire* is set to launch on May 22, 2025, and will be available on PC (EGS), Xbox Series, and PS5, promising a thrilling addition to the action-adventure genre.
