Stellar Blade Sequel Promises 'Rich' Narrative After Selling 3 Million Copies

With *Stellar Blade* surpassing 3 million global sales, director Hyung-tae Kim has officially confirmed that a sequel is in the works—and this time, it will feature a more “serious” and substantial narrative. In an exclusive interview with This Is Game, translated by Genki, Kim shared insights into the storytelling challenges faced during the original game’s development.

The creative team had originally envisioned a deeper, more intricate story for protagonist Eve and her allies. However, due to the high production costs associated with cinematic sequences, many cutscenes were ultimately cut to meet release deadlines. As a result, key narrative elements were left out, leaving players with unresolved questions—especially regarding Eve’s frequent costume changes and the broader lore of her world.

Although the idea of adding new cutscenes post-launch was considered, Kim expressed concerns that doing so might create inconsistencies or "clash" with existing player perceptions. Instead, fans can look forward to a more cohesive and "sufficiently rich narrative" in the upcoming sequel, which aims to deliver the depth many felt was missing in the first installment.

Patience will be required, however, as the Shift Up team is currently focused on delivering the PC version of the game. According to Kim, the team plans to "do our best" to launch the port by 2027, though no official release date has been set yet.

Interestingly, the recently launched PC version of *Stellar Blade* made waves upon its June 11 debut, becoming Sony’s biggest single-player Steam launch to date. The title quickly reached a peak of over 192,000 concurrent players—a number far surpassing previous Sony titles like Ghost of Tsushima (77,154), God of War (73,529), and Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered (66,436). Only Helldivers 2, a multiplayer-focused title, holds a higher concurrent player record among Sony-published games.

IGN's Stellar Blade review awarded the game a 7/10, noting: "Stellar Blade is great in all of the most important ways for an action game, but dull characters, a lackluster story, and several frustrating elements of its RPG mechanics prevent it from soaring along with the best of the genre."

For PC players, the enhanced experience includes features such as AI upscaling via Nvidia DLSS 4 and AMD FSR 3, an unlocked framerate, Japanese and Chinese voiceover options, ultrawide display compatibility, improved environment textures, and full DualSense controller support for immersive haptic feedback and trigger effects.
