Stellar Blade Hints at Multiplayer in Game Files

Author:Kristen Update:Nov 17,2025

The reports about modders uncovering a secret multiplayer mode in Stellar Blade may be misleading, according to the player who initially shared the viral split-screen gameplay footage.

While recent reports suggested developer Shift Up had embedded an unused multiplayer mode in the game, the modder behind the discovery clarifies this isn't accurate. PhantomSomnus, who posted the two-player clip in Discord, stated: "I woke up to everyone sharing clips I posted in Discord completely out of context – this is why I avoided tweeting them."

PhantomSomnus explained on X/Twitter that "split-screen functionality is an Unreal Engine feature, not something Shift Up developed." This explains how they implemented a second Eve character – the showcased split-screen multiplayer was their own creation using UE's built-in local multiplayer support, not an official feature. "I only experimented with split-screen to test possibilities, but as you can see, it didn't properly work," they added on Reddit.

PhantomSomnus confirmed: "Multiplayer indicators DO exist in the game, but they're strictly online components." Their earlier findings included screenshots from the demo's backend showing remnants of what they describe as "an abandoned PVP multiplayer mode." While non-functional, these discoveries revealed "some leftover menu elements."

When asked about potential future multiplayer updates or mods, PhantomSomnus responded: "Very doubtful."

PlayThe PC version launches on Steam June 11 with enhanced features including Nvidia DLSS 4/AMD FSR 3 AI upscaling, unlocked framerates, Japanese/Chinese voiceovers, ultrawide support, higher-res textures, and DualSense haptics. Initially region-locked in 100+ countries, it's now available for pre-order in over 250 regions.

IGN's review awarded Stellar Blade a 7/10, praising its action fundamentals while noting: "Dull characters, a forgettable story, and frustrating RPG mechanics prevent it from reaching genre heights."
