Civilization VII Patch Fixes Accessibility Issues

Author:Kristen Update:Feb 21,2025

Firaxis, the developer behind Civilization 7, has released patch 1.0.1, addressing player concerns following the game's full launch. The patch, available for PC, Mac, Linux, and Steam Deck, is the first of several planned updates focusing on community feedback gathered during the advanced access period.

Initial player and press reviews were mixed, with common criticisms centering on the user interface, limited map variety, and a perceived lack of expected features. While Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick acknowledged the negative feedback, he expressed confidence in the game's long-term appeal to the established Civilization fanbase.

This initial patch (1.0.1, also referred to as Patch 2 in the Steam announcement) tackles numerous issues:

Gameplay Improvements:

  • Corrected the duration of Ages in Epic and Marathon speed games.
  • City-States now transition into Friendly Independent Powers during Age transitions instead of vanishing. They also begin with more units in the Exploration and Modern Ages.
  • Addressed inconsistencies in naval combat, ensuring correct combat strength values, reciprocal damage, and consistent movement after battles.
  • Prevented the addition of Age Progress in the Modern Age upon completing a Legacy Path's final milestone.
  • Towns now automatically revert to growing when their chosen Focus becomes ineligible.
  • The Future Civic is now repeatable across all Ages, with increased costs for repeated selections.
  • Fixed an issue where excessive growth bonuses could result in negative food requirements.
  • Improved rail network reliability for settlements connected via water by building Ports.
  • Enhanced the Loyalty Crisis in the Antiquity Age, allowing the purchase of Villas to manage happiness.

AI Enhancements:

  • Reduced the AI's frequency of offering high-value cities during peace deals.
  • Decreased the AI's likelihood of declaring war at the start of the Modern Age.
  • Increased the AI's consideration of Ideology before declaring war or offering peace in the Modern Age.
  • Adjusted AI war and peace desires based on ideological alignment with the player.

Camera Fix:

  • Resolved a camera focusing issue on native resolutions affecting minimap clicks.

UI/UX Improvements:

  • Temporarily replaced the Simplified Chinese font with the Civilization VI font.
  • Fixed issues with opening the Settlement menu, populating yield icons on converted towns, and text cut-off on the Global Yields Breakdown screen.
  • Added notifications for completed espionage actions.
  • Corrected the display order of religions in the belief picker.
  • Removed the persistent display of a District’s health bar after healing.
  • Fixed missing leader portraits after relationship changes.
  • Improved alignment of leader names and portraits on the Age Summary.
  • Corrected the background color issue in the Player Customize tab.
  • Improved spacing on the loading screen.

Cross-Play Note: Cross-play between PC and console players is temporarily disabled to expedite PC patch deployment. PC-to-PC and console-to-console cross-play remain unaffected.

This patch represents a significant step towards addressing player feedback and improving the overall Civilization 7 experience. Further patches are expected.
