Jacksepticeye's Unannounced Soma Animated Show Falls Apart Unexpectedly

YouTuber Jacksepticeye, real name Seán William McLoughlin, recently shared his disappointment over a year-long project that fell through: an animated show based on the critically acclaimed survival horror game, Soma. In his video titled 'A Bad Month,' Jacksepticeye expressed how the unexpected cancellation of the Soma animated show left him "quite upset."

Soma, developed by Frictional Games, the creators of the Amnesia series, was released in 2015 and quickly became a favorite of Jacksepticeye's, who streamed it extensively and praised its narrative as one of the best in video gaming. The planned animated show was a passion project for Jacksepticeye, who had been in discussions with the game's developers for a year and was on the verge of entering full production.

In his video, Jacksepticeye explained that he had been holding off on replaying Soma in one video, hoping to announce the animated show first. However, the project abruptly fell apart when an unnamed party decided to take the project in a "different direction." This sudden shift left Jacksepticeye reluctant to delve into the specifics due to his emotional response to the situation.

The cancellation of the Soma animated show has had a significant impact on Jacksepticeye's plans for 2025, forcing him to reconsider his content strategy. He had planned to focus less on regular uploads and more on the animated show, hoping to share this creative endeavor with his audience. Now, with the project canceled, he finds himself at a crossroads, unsure of his next steps.

Following the release of Soma, Frictional Games continued to expand the Amnesia series with 2020's Amnesia: Rebirth and 2023's Amnesia: The Bunker. In a statement after the release of The Bunker, Frictional's creative director Thomas Grip indicated a shift in focus away from purely horror themes toward exploring other emotional qualities in their games, emphasizing immersive experiences over just being "spooky."
