Split Fiction Continues With More Surprises

First Players to Finish "Laser Hell" Challenge Earn a Trip to Hazelight Studios

Following its successful launch last month, Split Fiction continues to captivate players with unexpected surprises, including the secret "Laser Hell" stage. Despite its notorious difficulty, Chinese streamers sharkOvO and E1uM4y triumphed over the challenge, securing a trip to Hazelight Studios as a reward from the game's director.

The duo showcased their feat in a video on BiliBili, detailing how to access the stage by entering a specific sequence of switches in the Isolation level's elevator. Successfully navigating the laser-filled platform not only granted them access to a congratulatory video from Hazelight Founder Josef Fares but also an invitation to visit the studio in Sweden. Fares took to Twitter (X) on March 19 to commend sharkOvO and E1uM4y, stating, "Congrats to 'sharkOvO' and 'E1uM4y' for finishing the secret challenge 'Laser Hell' in #splitficton. VERY impressive! I will keep my promise and invite you both to Sweden for an early look at our next game. We'll be in touch!"

In a recent interview on The Friends Per Second podcast on March 17, Josef Fares discussed Hazelight's relationship with publisher EA and hinted at the studio's next project. Fares expressed that Split Fiction felt uniquely special to him, noting it as the best-received game they've produced. However, his focus has swiftly shifted to the next venture, which the studio began developing about a month ago.

Though Fares kept details about the upcoming project under wraps, he mentioned that Hazelight typically works on a game for three to four years. He emphasized the studio's excitement and assured fans that more information would be forthcoming as the project progresses.

Regarding their relationship with EA, Fares clarified that the publisher acts as a supportive partner, allowing Hazelight full creative control. He stated, "EA is a supporter. We don’t pitch games to them. We say, ‘We’re going to do this.’ That’s it. They have zero, and I mean zero, thing to say about what we’re doing next." Fares praised EA's respect for Hazelight's autonomy, highlighting their successful collaboration.
