Squad Busters Hits Milestone: 40 Million Installs, $24 Million Revenue

Supercell's Squad Busters: A Less-Than-Stellar Debut?

Supercell's latest mobile game, Squad Busters, a MOBA RTS hybrid, has achieved 40 million installs and $24 million in net revenue within its first month. While impressive on the surface, these figures pale in comparison to the company's previous successes. The US led the charge in player numbers, followed by Indonesia, Brazil, Turkey, and South Korea.

However, a concerning trend has emerged. Spending has steadily decreased since launch, falling significantly short of Brawl Stars' $43 million and Clash Royale's staggering $115 million first-month revenues in 2018 and 2016, respectively. Furthermore, installs have also declined dramatically, dropping from a peak of 30 million in the first week to less than five million by the end of the month.

Supercell Fatigue?

The diminishing returns for Squad Busters, a game Supercell clearly invested heavily in, raise questions. Competitor Honkai Star Rail, for instance, generated a massive $190 million in its first month, highlighting the disparity. While Squad Busters is a well-made game, its similarity to Supercell's existing portfolio may indicate a potential market saturation – a case of Supercell fatigue among players.

Only time will tell if Squad Busters can overcome this initial slump. For a look at other top-performing mobile games of 2024 and upcoming titles, check out our lists of the best and most anticipated mobile games of the year!
