REPO's Overcharge and Difficulty Scaling are Getting Major Tweaks, Says Developer

Exciting changes are on the horizon for REPO, as the developers at Semiwork plan to refine the game's difficulty scaling and introduce new mechanics every 10 levels. Dive into the details of the upcoming Overcharge mechanic updates and discover what the developers have been working on during the game's open beta.

REPO Development Updates

Overcharge Overhaul

REPO's recent open beta has provided crucial feedback, with the Overcharge mechanic drawing particular attention from developer Semiwork.

The Overcharge feature empowers players to strategically counter enemies by lifting and hurling them onto hard surfaces or away from their teammates. However, this isn't a free-for-all move; it's governed by an overcharge meter. Once filled, this meter causes the player to explode, adding a thrilling layer of risk and strategy to the gameplay.

Originally, Overcharge was accessible right from the game's start, but the developers have now decided to unlock it at level 10. This change sets the stage for a series of difficulty-increasing mechanics that will be introduced every 10 levels (at levels 20, 30, and beyond), with Overcharge leading the charge as the first of these challenges.

These new mechanics will seamlessly integrate with REPO's rich lore. As Semiwork explains, "So this system will be also tied to lore. It won’t be just a gimmick for no reason. There will be something attached to this and we will share more details in the future."

Developers Joined Open Beta Matchmaking

In a unique move, during the recent open beta, Semiwork's developers, including Pontus Sundstrom, joined random matches incognito to directly engage with the player base. Sundstrom shared his joy in seeing players enjoy the new additions to the game, saying, "And I've also actually played with a lot of you guys - incognito, in secret, through the random matchmaking in the servers." He further noted, "And I've been asking some questions and finding out what you guys find fun, stuff like that."

With the valuable insights gathered, Semiwork is committed to enhancing REPO. Players can anticipate more exciting updates as the developers continue to engage with the community and promise to reveal more soon. Stay updated with the latest on R.E.P.O. by clicking on our article below!
