Call of Duty Studio Loses Multiplayer Development Director

Call of Duty Veteran Greg Reisdorf Departs Sledgehammer Games After 15 Years

After a remarkable 15-year tenure, Greg Reisdorf, Call of Duty's Multiplayer Creative Director, has announced his departure from Sledgehammer Games. His contributions spanned numerous Call of Duty titles, beginning with the development of Modern Warfare 3 in 2011.

Reisdorf's journey with Sledgehammer Games, established in 2009, saw him play a pivotal role in shaping the multiplayer experience across various installments. His involvement extended beyond individual game releases, encompassing collaborations with Treyarch, Infinity Ward, and Raven Software on projects including Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone.

In a recent Twitter announcement, Reisdorf confirmed his departure on January 10th, 2024. He highlighted key achievements, including his work on Modern Warfare 3's memorable "Blood Brothers" campaign sequence and his contributions to the innovative "boots on the ground" gameplay mechanics introduced in Advanced Warfare. He openly discussed his mixed feelings regarding the "Pick 13" system in Advanced Warfare, expressing a preference for reward systems that don't compromise core weapon choices.

Reisdorf also reflected on his involvement in Call of Duty: WW2, noting the initial challenges with the game's class-restricted weapon system and the subsequent positive changes implemented post-launch. His contributions to Vanguard's multiplayer, particularly the design of traditional three-lane maps, were also highlighted, reflecting his focus on enjoyable gameplay over strict military realism.

His most recent role saw him lead the multiplayer development for 2023's Modern Warfare 3, overseeing the creation of new maps and live seasonal content, including the popular Snowfight and Infectious Holiday modes. He oversaw the development of over 20 modes throughout the game's post-launch support.

Reisdorf's departure marks the end of a significant chapter in Call of Duty's history, but his statement suggests he will continue his career within the gaming industry. His legacy is one of innovation and impactful contributions to the beloved franchise.
