  • Xbox Game Pass Ultimate: Increases from $16.99 to $19.99 per month. This tier retains its comprehensive benefits: PC Game Pass, Day One games, extensive game library, online multiplayer, and cloud gaming.

  • PC Game Pass: Increases from $9.99 to $11.99 per month. Day One releases, member discounts, and EA Play remain included.

  • Game Pass Core: Annual price increases to $74.99 (from $59.99), maintaining a $9.99 monthly option.

Current console subscribers retain access to Day One games as long as their subscription remains active. Once it lapses, they must choose from the updated plans. Price changes for existing subscribers take effect with their next billing cycle after September 12, 2024.

Introducing Xbox Game Pass Standard:

A new $14.99 per month tier, Xbox Game Pass Standard, will offer a back catalog of games and online play, but excludes Day One games and cloud gaming. Further details on release dates and game availability will be shared soon.

Xbox's Expanding Strategy:

Microsoft emphasizes that these changes offer players more choice in subscription options. Recent comments from Xbox executives Phil Spencer and Tim Stuart highlight the importance of Game Pass, first-party titles, and advertising as high-margin drivers of growth for Microsoft. A recent ad campaign emphasizes that you don't need an Xbox console to play Game Pass games, showcasing its availability on devices like Amazon Fire Sticks.

Phil Spencer has reiterated this commitment, acknowledging the challenges of manufacturing drives for consoles but emphasizing that a fully digital-only strategy is not on the horizon.
