Microsoft remains undeterred in its quest to bring more of its video games to the screen, despite the disappointing reception of the TV adaptation of its flagship Xbox game, Halo. In a recent interview with Variety, Microsoft gaming chief Phil Spencer expressed enthusiasm for future adaptations, citing the upcoming release of the Jack Black-starring "A Minecraft Movie" as a prime example of their continued commitment.

The success of the "Fallout" series on Prime Video, which is already slated for a second season, has further bolstered Microsoft's confidence in the realm of video game adaptations. Spencer emphasized that the company is learning from both its successes and failures, including the lessons gleaned from the Halo TV series, which was canceled after two seasons.

"We're learning and growing through this process, which is giving us more confidence that we should do more," Spencer told Variety. He reassured Xbox fans that more adaptations are on the horizon, as Microsoft continues to refine its approach.

Looking ahead, speculation abounds on which Xbox game could be next in line for adaptation. Netflix's announced live-action film and animated series based on "Gears of War" have been quiet, but the interest from MCU star Dave Bautista in playing Marcus Fenix keeps the project in the public eye.

Considering the success of "Fallout," Prime Video might be interested in adapting another fantasy franchise like "The Elder Scrolls" or "Skyrim." However, given Amazon's existing fantasy series like "The Rings of Power" and "The Wheel of Time," they might feel their fantasy slate is already full.

Sony's success with the "Gran Turismo" movie suggests that a "Forza Horizon" film could be a viable option for Microsoft. With the acquisition of Activision Blizzard, Microsoft could also explore a "Call of Duty" movie or revisit the "Warcraft" franchise. Jason Schreier's book, "Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future of Blizzard Entertainment," revealed that Netflix had been developing series for "Warcraft," "Overwatch," and "Diablo," which could potentially be revived under Microsoft's guidance.

On a lighter note, Microsoft's ownership of "Crash Bandicoot" presents an opportunity for a family-friendly animated movie or TV series, capitalizing on the success of similar adaptations like "Mario" and "Sonic." The upcoming reboot of "Fable" in 2026 could also be ripe for adaptation.

Finally, there's the possibility of giving "Halo" another chance, this time as a big-budget movie. Microsoft's competitors, Sony and Nintendo, have made significant strides in this arena. Sony has enjoyed success with "Uncharted," "The Last of Us," and "Twisted Metal," and has announced adaptations for "Helldivers 2," "Horizon Zero Dawn," and "Ghost of Tsushima," with "God of War" slated for two seasons. Nintendo, meanwhile, boasts the record-breaking "Super Mario Bros. Movie," with a sequel and a live-action "The Legend of Zelda" in development.
