Spider-Man 2 Debuts to 'Mixed' Steam Reviews Amid Serious PC Performance Problems

Author:Kristen Update:Mar 22,2025

Spider-Man 2's PC port, initially touted for its surprisingly good performance based on its system requirements, has received a mixed reception on Steam. A significant number of players report various technical issues, resulting in a current 55% positive user review rating.

Many users, even those with high-end GPUs like the RTX 4090 and the latest drivers, experience frequent crashes. One user reported crashes every five minutes, rendering the game unplayable. Another described the game as "rough," citing issues such as loading failures in cutscenes, extremely low frame rates in these scenes, audio desynchronization, freezing, stuttering, and other performance problems. Several users have already requested refunds.

The primary problem appears to be frequent crashes of the game's graphics controller, even on powerful PCs. A common error message points to outdated drivers, overly demanding in-game settings, GPU overheating, or a game error.

Beyond crashes, users report issues with DLSS and ray tracing functionality, extended loading times, missing textures, and audio problems. Some players claim performance stutters after extended play sessions eventually lead to hard crashes, with speculation of a memory leak as the underlying cause.

Nixxes, the port developer, acknowledges these issues on the Steam forums. They direct users to their support website for troubleshooting guides, requesting logs and crash dumps to aid in faster problem resolution. Nixxes also confirmed awareness of a bug during photo-op missions, suggesting lowering graphics settings or resolution as a temporary workaround if frame rates drop below 20 FPS.
