UltiZero Games' Lost Soul Aside will launch with a region lock, frustrating players as Sony continues to restrict the availability of its PlayStation-published PC titles. SteamDB data reveals the game will be inaccessible in over 130 countries, all unsupported by the PlayStation Network (PSN).

Despite not requiring a PSN account to play, the region lock prevents the game from appearing on Steam in PSN-unsupported regions. Players wishing to access Lost Soul Aside must create a new Steam account in a PSN-supported country—a perplexing requirement, especially given PlayStation's recent removal of PSN requirements for other PC titles. This decision has ignited significant player anger on social media, with many choosing not to purchase the game as a result.

Lost Soul Aside: A Blend of Fantasy and Realism

Since its 2016 announcement, Lost Soul Aside has maintained its unique blend of fantasy elements and realistic visuals. UltiZero Games CEO Yang Bing discussed the game's artistic vision in a February 20, 2025 IGN interview.

Bing confirmed the game's style, including its high-speed, flashy combat, remains consistent with its 2016 reveal. He stated, "This is something we've been committed to for years. While we've seen excellent new works during development, influencing our thinking, the initial vision has evolved into a more mature and refined version."

Bing previously cited Final Fantasy XV as an influence, noting its similar blend of reality and fantasy. He highlighted protagonist Kaser's design, which juxtaposes cartoonish features with realistic textures for skin, hair, and clothing.

Lost Soul Aside draws inspiration from several popular Japanese games, including Final Fantasy, Bayonetta, Ninja Gaiden, and Devil May Cry. In a February 20, 2025 Famitsu interview, Bing detailed these influences.

He attributed Kaser's design primarily to the Final Fantasy series, adding, "We had a designer create his clothes, aiming to combine realistic and fantasy elements, just like in Final Fantasy. These clothes were then realistically rendered in-game, giving players a sense of tangible existence and grounding Kaser as a believable character."

Regarding combat, Bing cited Bayonetta, Ninja Gaiden, and Devil May Cry as influences on the game's flashy abilities and fast-paced action. He stated, "We're continuously refining the combat system, maintaining speed while adding depth. Players can develop their own style, achieving high performance even without mastering complex combos."

Lost Soul Aside launches May 30, 2025, on PlayStation 5 and PC. Stay tuned for further updates!
