Hyper Light Breaker Multiplayer Guide: Co-op and Random Matchmaking

Hyper Light Breaker, the 3D rogue-lite successor to Hyper Light Drifter, introduces a compelling multiplayer element. This guide details how to play cooperatively with friends and how to utilize the random matchmaking system.

Playing Hyper Light Breaker with Friends

Hyper Light Breaker Multiplayer Menu

To initiate a co-op session, create a private multiplayer room. Upon arriving at the Cursed Outpost hub, approach the counter to the left of your commander, Pherus Bit.

Interact with the counter (typically R1 or RB) to access the Multiplayer menu. Select "Create Breaker Team."

Enable "Password Required" and set a password. This ensures only invited players can join. Invite up to two friends via your platform's social features (PSN, Xbox, and Steam are supported). The game supports three-player groups.

Invited friends will receive an in-game notification if online. Otherwise, they can join using the provided invitation link. Your team may also appear in the "Join Breaker Team" menu, allowing friends to join directly.

Once your friends join, you're ready to embark on a collaborative Hyper Light Breaker adventure.

Random Online Matchmaking

Hyper Light Breaker Join Random Team

For multiplayer without pre-arranged friends, Hyper Light Breaker offers public group functionality. You can create your own public group (without a password) or join a random one.

In the Cursed Outpost's Multiplayer menu, select "Join Breaker Team," then choose "Join Random Public Breaker Team" at the bottom.

The game will automatically connect you to an available public group. After a brief loading screen, you'll join the host's world.

To leave a multiplayer session, return to the Cursed Outpost counter, open the Multiplayer menu, and select the "Disconnect" option (appearing only when in a session). Alternatively, exiting the game will also end the multiplayer session.
