The Last of Us Part 2 PC Port Will Require PSN Account

The Last of Us Part II Remastered's PC release on April 3, 2025, necessitates a PlayStation Network (PSN) account, sparking controversy among potential players. This requirement, also present in previous PC ports of PlayStation exclusives, forces users to create or link a PSN account, a move met with considerable backlash in the past.

While Sony's bringing beloved titles like The Last of Us Part II to PC via Steam is a welcome development, the PSN account mandate is a contentious point. The original Last of Us Part I, released on PC in 2022, also shared this requirement. The Steam page for Part II Remastered clearly states the PSN account necessity, allowing linking of existing accounts.

This practice, while understandable from a business perspective aiming to expand PSN user base, is questionable. Unlike games with multiplayer components, The Last of Us Part II is a single-player experience. The need for a PSN account for a single-player game seems unnecessary, especially given the previous negative reaction to similar requirements, exemplified by Sony's removal of the PSN requirement from Helldivers 2 following significant player pushback.

While a basic PSN account is free, the added step of account creation or linking presents a hurdle. Furthermore, PSN's unavailability in certain regions creates accessibility issues, contradicting the series' reputation for inclusivity. This requirement risks alienating potential PC players and dampening the excitement surrounding the highly anticipated remaster.
