Squad Busters 2.0 Revamps Gameplay for Android Ahead of First Anniversary

Squad Busters nears its first anniversary, and Supercell unveils its transformative 2.0 update. Launched on May 13th, this major overhaul aims to revitalize the game, which struggled to build a strong following since its 2024 debut. Can 2.0 turn the tide?

A Complete Gameplay Overhaul

Squad Busters 2.0 feels like a fresh start, as its name implies. From battle mechanics to victory conditions, the game undergoes a dramatic shift.

The standout feature is the introduction of Heroes. Players now select a Hero to spearhead their team, drawn from familiar characters. If your Hero falls, the match is over.

Combat mechanics also evolve. Attacks no longer require pausing movement, blending motion and fighting for faster, more intense battles.

Winning conditions have shifted as well. Instead of defeating all opponents, victory now hinges on taking out the enemy Hero. Some fans question if this leans too heavily toward a Brawl Stars-inspired format.

Shedding Legacy Features

The 2.0 update removes several modes, including Doppelgangers, Double Trouble, Epic Overload, Loot Machines, and Hatchling Herder. Certain skins and progression systems are also retired, with Supercell offering Hero Points and other rewards as compensation.

Supercell’s swift changes reflect Squad Busters’ struggle to match the success of Clash of Clans or Brawl Stars.

With the first anniversary on May 29th approaching, Supercell aims to rekindle excitement. Daily piñata events will soon launch, offering chances to unlock a new Hero, Mortis.
