As the developer explained to PCGamer, "The main issue with matchmaking lobbies is hackers. But the issue with an anti-cheat system is that you’re ruining the experience for everyone who has made mods, because mods don’t work with an anti-cheat system. And we don’t want that." While some PC-only titles, like Mouthwashing, have successfully transitioned to consoles, it's important to note that Mouthwashing is a single-player game, simplifying the porting process considerably. Similarly, Lethal Company and Content Warning, predecessors to R.E.P.O. with similar gameplay mechanics, have also remained PC exclusives. Although the developers of Content Warning briefly considered a console release last year, technical challenges ultimately hindered those plans.
