"Hail Mary" Film by Lord & Miller Nears Release

Author:Kristen Update:Oct 31,2025

Ryan Gosling's highly anticipated sci-fi thriller Project Hail Mary won't premiere until 2026, yet it's already making waves by shattering records long before its theatrical debut.

Director Phil Lord announced this week that the film's trailer has achieved a staggering 400 million views within its first week online, setting a new benchmark as the most-watched trailer for an original, non-franchise film.

Lord celebrated this milestone on social media, stating: "Incredible! Huge thanks to all passionate fans of cinema, literature, near-light-speed space travel, and solar science for propelling Project Hail Mary's trailer past 400 million views - a historic first-week achievement for any original film trailer." His post featured Gosling's new character image alongside the impressive statistics.

The director added: "We're excited to personally thank some fans at San Diego Comic-Con's Hall H alongside Ryan, Andy, Drew...with special surprises in store." Lord will appear alongside Gosling, co-director Chris Miller, author Andy Weir, and screenwriter Drew Goddard, promising exclusive reveals during the event.

This marks the second adaptation of Weir's work following 20th Century Fox's phenomenally successful The Martian starring Matt Damon, which grossed $630 million worldwide. Amazon MGM Studios' decision to adapt another Weir novel appears prescient given this early reception.

Featuring Sandra Hüller, Lionel Boyce, Ken Leung, and Milana Vayntrub, Project Hail Mary is scheduled for release on March 20, 2026.
