Obsidian RPG Avowed Can Hit 60FPS on Xbox Series X

Obsidian's Avowed: 60fps on Xbox Series X Confirmed, Series S Locked at 30fps

Avowed, Obsidian Entertainment's highly anticipated RPG, will achieve a frame rate of up to 60 frames per second (fps) on the Xbox Series X, according to game director Carrie Patel in a MinnMax interview. While she provided no further details, the confirmation contrasts with the previously announced 30fps cap for the Xbox Series S version.

Whether Avowed will offer selectable performance and graphics modes—a common feature allowing players to prioritize either higher frame rates or enhanced visuals—remains unconfirmed. It's unclear if the 60fps target on Xbox Series X is the default setting or a selectable performance mode option.

The game's release date presents a curious pricing structure. Those willing to pay $89.99 gain early access on February 13th, while the standard $69.99 edition launches five days later on February 18th. This staggered release strategy, while employed by other publishers, has been abandoned by some, like Ubisoft.

Avowed, set within the Pillars of Eternity universe, is a first-person fantasy RPG emphasizing player choice and impactful decisions. Players will unravel mysteries, navigate conflicts, and build relationships (or rivalries) within a richly detailed world.

IGN's final preview lauded the game's engaging dialogue, player agency, and overall enjoyable experience, stating, "Avowed is just a lot of fun."
