The upcoming HD remaster of Luigi's Mansion 2 is the work of Tantalus Media, a studio with a history of successful Nintendo remakes, including The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD and Skyward Sword HD. The original Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, released on the Nintendo 3DS in 2013, was developed by Next Level Games. This new Switch version sees Tantalus Media taking the reins.

Nintendo unveiled the Switch remake during a Nintendo Direct last September, confirming its June 27th release date in March. The game's file size was revealed shortly after a new trailer showcasing the storyline. While the release is imminent, the developer remained a secret until recently revealed by VGC.

Tantalus Media’s credits on Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD confirm their role. The studio's other credits include the Wii U port of Twilight Princess, the Switch port of Skyward Sword, the Switch port of Sonic Mania, and PC port of the original House of the Dead. They also contributed to the Age of Empires 1-3 Definitive Editions.

Early reviews have been positive, praising it as another high-quality Nintendo remaster, similar to November's Super Mario RPG and this year's Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. However, Luigi's Mansion 2 HD has experienced pre-order issues mirroring those encountered by Paper Mario, with Walmart cancelling orders earlier this month.

The late reveal of Tantalus Media follows a pattern for Nintendo, who often keep developer information under wraps until close to release. This was also the case with the Super Mario RPG remake developer, ArtePiazza. The developer of Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Minions remains undisclosed, suggesting this secrecy will continue.
