Insomniac Games, renowned for their beloved titles like Ratchet and Clank, has expressed a keen interest in transforming more of their games into cinematic experiences. This revelation came from co-Studio Head Ryan Schneider during an interview with Variety, shortly after the announcement of the retirement of Insomniac's founder and long-time CEO, Ted Price.

Schneider reminisced about the 2016 Ratchet and Clank film, stating, "I think back to the Ratchet and Clank film from several years ago. And we kind of got an early start on that. So, of course, we’re interested in that kind of thing. We love Ratchet and Clank in particular." Despite the mixed reviews the 2016 film received, Insomniac's acquisition by Sony in 2019 has bolstered their confidence in pursuing further adaptations, especially given Sony’s successful track record with projects like The Last of Us.

Sony has demonstrated its prowess in adapting video games into movies and TV series, with notable successes like the Uncharted film in 2022 and the critically acclaimed The Last of Us TV series in 2023. The company's commitment to this space was further highlighted at the CES 2025 press conference, where several upcoming projects were announced. The Last of Us Season 2 is set to premiere on HBO in April 2025, followed by an Until Dawn live-action film in the same month. Additionally, a Ghost of Tsushima Legends anime series is slated for Crunchyroll in 2027, with a Helldivers feature film and a Horizon Zero Dawn live-action film also in development, though without confirmed release dates yet.

Insomniac's Leadership Transition

In a significant shift, Insomniac's founder and CEO, Ted Price, announced his retirement after 30 years at the helm. Price, instrumental in creating iconic franchises such as Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet & Clank, and Marvel’s Spider-Man, stated, "I actually made this decision last year. For me, after over 30 years of leading Insomniac, I felt it was simply time to step aside and let others pave the way for our team."

The leadership mantle will now be shared among three Insomniac veterans: Ryan Schneider, Chad Dezern, and Jen Huang, who will serve as co-Studio Heads. Price emphasized the importance of this transition, saying, "I believe strongly that for us to continue our success, we need leaders at the top who are intimately familiar with how we do things, leaders who have helped build our culture and our processes, and who have earned people’s trust."

As Insomniac Games embarks on this new chapter, the studio's enthusiasm for game-to-screen adaptations, coupled with Sony's proven capabilities, signals exciting possibilities for fans of their iconic titles.
