The crossover includes a fully draftable, Standard-legal set and four preconstructed decks. Each deck boasts 100 cards: reprints with new Final Fantasy art and brand-new cards designed for Commander. Each deck centers on a specific Final Fantasy game.

Senior Game Designer Daniel Holt explains the game selection: "Final Fantasy's rich lore, characters, and settings provided ample material for a full deck. Focusing on individual games allowed us to delve deep into each game's story." While FFVII and FFXIV were easy choices, FFVI and FFX were selected due to team favorites and gameplay considerations. Holt highlights the team's passion for Final Fantasy: "Everyone was invested, as we have many passionate Final Fantasy fans on the team."

The FFVII deck balances the original game's narrative with the modern aesthetics of the Remake trilogy. Principal Narrative Game Designer Dillon Deveney explains: "We captured the original's narrative, using Remake's aesthetics to enhance character designs and locations. We chose between the original depiction, the Remake version, or a unique blend."

The FFVI deck presents a unique challenge, lacking the modern art references of other games. Deveney explains their approach: "We synthesized designs from Yoshitaka Amano's concept art, original sprites, and Pixel Remaster portraits. We collaborated with the FFVI team for feedback."

Commander deck leaders were carefully chosen. While Cloud was an obvious choice for FFVII, other selections involved brainstorming. The team ultimately chose the lead characters, except for FFXIV's MMO setting. Holt explains Y'shtola's selection: "It was a mix of popularity and her spellcasting abilities, offering a wide range of abilities and story moments." The deck focuses on her Shadowbringers arc.

Color identity was crucial. Holt notes all four decks include White, "for theming and to include a wide range of heroes." Each deck's strategy reflects its game's themes: FFVI focuses on graveyard recursion, FFVII on equipment and environmental effects, FFX on creature empowerment, and FFXIV on spellcasting.

Supporting characters are also featured. Holt assures fans: "Fans can expect to see some of their favorite characters as new legendary creatures and in action on spells."

The Final Fantasy set launches June 13th. Holt confirms that "all sixteen mainline games will have their moments to shine in accompanying products." Both regular ($69.99 MSRP) and Collector's Edition ($149.99 MSRP) decks will be available, the latter featuring Surge foil cards.
