Destiny 2 Exotic Weapon Disabled After Critical Exploit

Bungie disables Destiny 2's Hawkmoon hand cannon in PvP due to an exploit. The popular exotic weapon, known for its unique perks, was causing significant problems in Crucible matches. This isn't the first time Destiny 2, a live-service game, has faced such issues; past examples include the overpowered Prometheus Lens.

While the recent expansion, The Final Shape, has been generally well-received, it also introduced bugs, such as one affecting the No Hesitation auto rifle's ability to deal with barrier champions.

The Hawkmoon exploit involved using the Kinetic Holster mod to prevent the cancellation of its Paracausal Shot perk, resulting in effectively unlimited damage-boosted shots. This allowed players to achieve one-shot kills in the Crucible. Bungie acted swiftly to disable Hawkmoon in PvP before the Trials of Osiris began.

This incident follows another recent exploit allowing players to farm rewards while AFK in private matches. While that exploit primarily yielded common resources, it also occasionally dropped valuable weapons. Bungie disabled rewards in private matches to address this issue. The differing responses to these two exploits highlight the complexities of balancing player experience and preventing game-breaking issues in a live-service environment.
