Four-Lane Map Transitions to Three Lanes

Deadlock's latest major update simplifies its map structure by reducing the number of lanes from four to three. Valve detailed this full map rework and additional adjustments in a Steam post on February 26, 2025. The redesign not only reduces the lanes but also introduces "a large range of accompanying map-wide changes regarding visuals, building layouts, pathways, neutral camps, air vents, breakables, powerup buffs, juke spots, mid boss, etc." This change aims to streamline the gameplay while maintaining Deadlock's unique third-person MOBA experience.

Moreover, the update includes changes to farming mechanics, eliminating the need to last-hit enemies to summon Soul Orbs, which should ease early laning phases. The patch notes also mention enhancements to the game’s netcode and client performance, promising a smoother gaming experience.

A Crucial Update for Deadlock

This update could be the revitalization Deadlock needs to re-engage its community. After reaching an all-time peak of 171,490 active players in September 2024, Deadlock experienced a 90% drop in player count, with only about 17,000 players this past month.

Valve Developer Yoshi, in a January 2025 post on Deadlock’s Discord server, announced adjustments to their update schedule. Yoshi stated, "Going forward, major patches will no longer be on a fixed schedule. These patches will be larger than before, albeit a little bit more spaced out, and hotfixes will continue to be released as needed. We look forward to fleshing out the game in the new year."

Currently, Deadlock remains in active development and playtesting, accessible only via friend invite. No official release date has been announced yet. For more details on the game, visit our Deadlock page.
