DC's upcoming film adaptation of The Authority faces challenges, according to DC Studios co-chief James Gunn. Initially announced as a major project within Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters, the film has been placed on the back burner.

Gunn cited several reasons for the delay, highlighting the difficulty in developing the story in a landscape already saturated with similar content, particularly Amazon's The Boys. He acknowledged the impact of The Boys and other projects inspired by The Authority, complicating the creative process. Further complicating matters is the ongoing development of other DCU projects and the desire to integrate existing characters and storylines.

"Honestly, Authority's been the one that's been the hardest," Gunn stated, emphasizing the need to balance the overall narrative with the existing DCU projects.

While The Authority is currently sidelined, one of its members, the Engineer/Angela Spica, is slated to appear in the upcoming Superman film. The Engineer, known for her immense power, technological prowess, and telepathic abilities, is a key figure in the WildStorm Universe.

Other Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters projects have also faced setbacks. Waller, a spin-off of Peacemaker, has experienced delays, while Booster Gold is progressing smoothly. Paradise Lost remains a priority, with the pilot script currently in development. The Swamp Thing project is on hold, pending the availability of director James Mangold, but is not considered crucial to the overall DCU narrative.
