How to Capture Monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds

Mastering Monster Capture in Monster Hunter Wilds

While slaying monsters is rewarding, capturing them for valuable parts is equally crucial in Monster Hunter Wilds. This guide outlines the process.

The Capture Process:

Weakening a monster is the first step. Your Palico will alert you, but other indicators include a skull icon on the minimap and the monster exhibiting signs of weakness like limping or drooling.

Once weak, deploy a Shock Trap or Pitfall Trap. Lure the monster onto the trap, incapacitating it briefly. This is your opportunity to use Tranq Bombs, usually one or two suffice. Alternatively, craft Tranq Ammo or Tranq Blades depending on your weapon and preferred play style.

Successfully capturing a monster concludes the quest, returning you to Base Camp.

Obtaining Traps and Tranq Items:

While your Palico might occasionally set traps, it's advisable to carry your own. There are two trap types:

  • Pitfall Trap: Requires a Trap Tool and a Net (Spiderwebs or Ivy).
  • Shock Trap: Requires a Trap Tool and a Thunderbug Capacitor.

Tranq items are crafted as follows:

  • Tranq Bomb: Combine a Sleep Herb and a Parashroom.
  • Tranq Ammo/Tranq Blades: Combine Tranq Bombs with Normal Ammo or Throwing Knives respectively.
