Spectre Divide Backlash Prompts Skin Prices to Lower Soon After Launch

Mountaintop Studios, the developers behind the newly released FPS title Spectre Divide, swiftly addressed player concerns regarding exorbitant skin and bundle pricing. Just hours after launch, the studio announced significant price reductions and refunds.

Price Cuts and Refunds

In response to widespread criticism, Spectre Divide implemented a 17-25% price reduction across all in-game weapons and character skins, as confirmed by game director Lee Horn. The studio acknowledged player feedback, stating, "We've heard your feedback and we're making changes." Furthermore, players who purchased items before the price adjustment will receive a 30% SP (in-game currency) refund, rounded up to the nearest 100 SP.

This compensation extends to those who bought Founder's or Supporter packs and subsequently purchased additional items from the Starter pack, Sponsors, or Endorsement upgrades categories. However, the pricing of these packs remains unchanged.

Mixed Reactions and Future Outlook

Despite the price adjustments, player reactions remain divided, mirroring the game's currently "Mixed" Steam rating (49% Negative at the time of writing). While some players appreciate the developer's responsiveness, others criticize the late implementation of the changes and express concerns about the game's long-term viability in a competitive free-to-play market. Suggestions for further improvements, such as allowing individual item purchases from bundles, have also been raised. The situation highlights the importance of pre-launch price testing and community engagement in the free-to-play gaming landscape.
