Path of Exile 1 Update Delayed Due to Path of Exile 2 Issues

Grinding Gear Games (GGG) has apologized for delaying Path of Exile 1's 3.26 update, originally slated for late October 2024 and then mid-February 2025. The delay is attributed to the need to address significant issues within the recently released Path of Exile 2.

GGG had committed to continued updates for Path of Exile 1, even after the launch of its sequel. However, the entire Path of Exile 1 development team was reassigned to assist with Path of Exile 2's endgame development and stability ahead of its December 2024 launch. While initially believing they could return to Path of Exile 1's 3.26 update in time for its February target, the severity of Path of Exile 2's launch problems—including crashes and balance issues—prevented this.

In a video message, Game Director Jonathan Rogers acknowledged the studio's miscalculation, stating they were "fooling ourselves" regarding the timeline. He explained the decision to prioritize Path of Exile 2's stability, emphasizing the impossibility of diverting experienced developers while the game faced critical issues.

The Path of Exile 1 team remains focused on Path of Exile 2, with work continuing until at least version 0.2.0 and possibly a couple of weeks beyond. While a release date for Path of Exile 1's 3.26 update remains unconfirmed, Rogers expressed regret for the situation and outlined a plan for the update's eventual completion.

Path of Exile 2 launched on December 6th, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, achieving significant success and becoming one of Steam's most-played games. GGG is providing resources to help players navigate Path of Exile 2, including class guides and advice on mechanics like Spirit acquisition, trading, and ascensions.
