Valorant is taking a significant step forward in its battle against hackers by introducing ranked rollbacks. This new feature aims to reverse any progress or rank that players might lose due to matches affected by cheaters, ensuring a more level playing field. The head of Valorant's anti-cheat, Phillip Koskinas, has been vocal about this initiative, emphasizing Riot Games' commitment to fair play. He warned cheaters that Riot is now equipped to "hit so much harder" with these new measures.
Cheating and hacking have long plagued online gaming, with various companies deploying different strategies to combat these issues. Despite Valorant boasting one of the most robust anti-cheat systems in the industry, a recent surge in hackers has disrupted the gaming experience for many players. In response, Riot Games is implementing tougher penalties to deter cheating.
Koskinas shared insights on Twitter, acknowledging the current cheating challenges and reassuring the community that Riot is actively addressing the problem. The new strategy includes ranked rollbacks, which will reverse the rank or progress of players affected by cheaters in lost matches. He also highlighted the effectiveness of Riot's Vanguard system, which banned a significant number of cheaters in January, with a peak on January 13.
Addressing concerns about fairness, Koskinas clarified that players on the same team as a hacker will retain their rank rating, while the opposing team will have their ratings restored. He acknowledged that this approach might lead to some inflation in rankings but expressed confidence in moving forward with this strategy.
Valorant's Vanguard system, renowned for its kernel-level security clearance on PCs, has been instrumental in detecting and banning cheaters. Its success has even influenced other games, such as Call of Duty, to adopt similar anti-cheat measures. Despite ongoing efforts to eradicate cheating, the persistent nature of hackers means the battle is far from over.
With thousands of bans already in place, Riot Games demonstrates its unwavering dedication to maintaining a fair gaming environment. The effectiveness of the new ranked rollback system will be closely watched, as it represents a crucial step in combating the latest wave of hackers in Valorant.
