The Ultimate Beginner’s Guide to Rune Slayer

Author:Kristen Update:Mar 17,2025

After two failed launches and months of anticipation, Rune Slayer has arrived, and it's fantastic! While incredibly fun, the game has a steep learning curve, especially for MMORPG newcomers. Fear not, this guide will help you conquer your Rune Slayer journey.

Here are some crucial tips we wish we'd known starting out:

Don't Randomly Attack Other Players

Rune Slayer's full-loot PvP initially caused concern, but it's less brutal than expected. Death doesn't mean losing your items; you simply respawn. However, attacking players earns you a bounty. The more kills, the larger the bounty, and the more items you lose upon death. Essentially, full-loot PvP is self-imposed. Unless you're deliberately ganking with friends, avoid attacking other players.

Craft Bags Immediately

Both bank and inventory space are severely limited. Fortunately, you can craft bags. Two can be equipped simultaneously, starting with the Cotton Bag. Find Cotton north of Wayshire and Flax south (beware of tougher mobs in the south). Each Cotton Bag adds 10 slots; craft them ASAP.

Your Pets Don't Actually Die

Contrary to initial impressions, your pets don't perish permanently. After their health reaches zero, they have a five-minute cooldown before respawning. Check the cooldown timer (hold T). To quickly heal your pet, use the free stable master slot to store and retrieve it.

Accept Every Quest

Rune Slayer boasts a plethora of quests—mostly unremarkable "kill X" tasks. To simplify, accept every quest you encounter, including those on the job board. Often, multiple quests can be completed simultaneously.

Craft Everything At Least Once

While prioritizing necessary crafts, use spare materials to experiment. Crafting unlocks new, potentially stronger items. For example, smelting Iron Ore might unlock superior Iron Armor crafting recipes.

Join a Guild

Rune Slayer is solo-friendly, but tougher enemies require teamwork. Guilds are the easiest way to find groups for challenging encounters. Use general chat or the official Rune Slayer Discord to find a guild.
