Great news for fans of Sam Fisher: Ubisoft has not forgotten about the beloved Splinter Cell series. In a recent move, they've added Steam Achievements to the 2013 title, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, signaling that the franchise remains on their radar.

The last significant update on the Splinter Cell Remake was in 2022, when IGN met with Ubisoft Toronto developers to discuss their approach to revamping the game. However, in a quiet update overnight, Ubisoft has now enhanced the 12-year-old Splinter Cell: Blacklist with a new achievement list on Steam.

Ubisoft stated: "Agents, we are pleased to announce that Steam Achievements are now available for Splinter Cell: Blacklist!"

The achievements are designed to be "retroactively earned for the accomplishments already completed in your game." To benefit from this update, players need to launch the game at least once, after which "previously unlocked Ubisoft Connect achievements will be automatically unlocked on Steam," as per the developer's announcement.

Interestingly, Ubisoft decided against adding the additional 19 online achievements available on consoles, allowing players to fully complete the game on Steam without needing to engage in online play.

The Splinter Cell series is poised to return with the Splinter Cell Remake, a modern take on the original game, utilizing the cutting-edge Snowdrop engine. Creative Director Chris Auty emphasized the intention to preserve the core elements of the story and gameplay experience while making necessary updates to aspects that may not have aged well over the past two decades.

In related news, Ubisoft recently established a new subsidiary focused on its major franchises like Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six, bolstered by a €1.16 billion (approximately $1.25 billion) investment from Tencent. This development follows the announcement that Assassin's Creed Shadows has surpassed 3 million players. Amidst this success, Ubisoft has faced challenges with high-profile flops, layoffs, studio closures, and game cancellations, with the pressure mounting on Assassin's Creed Shadows to perform well, especially after the company's share price reached a historic low.
