In Hollow Era, you start as a Soul Spirit, but your journey to becoming a Shinigami begins with a quest from the Hurt Shinigami NPC. This character calls for help, and by accepting her quest, you commit to the path of the Shinigami, leaving the Hollow path behind—unless you later choose to become a Visored. If you're keen on exploring the Hollow route, check out our separate guide on Hollow progression.

When choosing your path, act swiftly. To become a Hollow, simply break your chain, but if you aim to be a Shinigami, your chain will slowly break on its own. Every two minutes, a section of the chain breaks, and if you let it completely disintegrate, you'll turn into a Hollow. In such a case, refer to our resurrection moves list to master your new Hollow form.
Your initial quest as a Shinigami is to purify 6 Lost Souls, a task that aligns with your role of maintaining the balance between life and death. Next, you'll need to deliver a letter to a Doctor near the hospital, as instructed by an NPC standing near the Hurt Shinigami.

Use these early quests to familiarize yourself with your powers. Purchase a $1,000 random sword of power from the Urahara shop, and consider using the bus stop for $200 as a teleport or fast travel option—the map is expansive and involves a lot of running. Alternatively, spend 149 Robux on infinite fast travel from the Robux Shop.

Quests are marked with a red crosshair, guiding you through tasks like defeating one Hollow, then 5 Corrupted Shinigamis, and so on until you reach level 15. There are various types of quests: repeatable quests, progression quests, and path-specific quests such as Vizard and Airwalk.

To maximize your Shinigami's potential, strategically invest your skill points in the Reiatsu Skill Tree. This tree includes powerful Kido abilities, exclusive to Shinigami characters.
Kido and Reiatsu Nodes are essential: Kido increases damage from Kido skills, while Reiatsu boosts your maximum Reiatsu output. Here are some key Kido abilities:
Caja Negacion: Shoots a lightning beam from your finger. With Electric, it spreads electricity from the target.
Shakkaho: Creates a red energy ball in your hand, exploding on impact. With Ragdoll, it can ragdoll opponents; with Fire, it sets them ablaze.
Chain Bind: Summons energy chains to pull enemies towards you.
Prison of Light: Six light rods immobilize agile enemies.
Thunder Sear: A slow-moving lightning ball that damages and explodes upon contact with foes, great for crowd control.
To acquire Shikai in Hollow Era, reach level 15 and visit Urihiro for the Shikai Training quest. Defeat Urahara Kisuke to gain 1,700 exp and unlock Shikai powers.

Warning: If your hero isn't fully optimized, defeating Kisuke at level 15 may be challenging. Consider grinding up to level 25 before attempting this quest.
Upon unlocking Shikai, your weapon gains a random mighty ability. If unsatisfied with your sword's power, visit Urahara Shop to re-roll it for cash.
Shikai activation involves filling a Rage Bar, which increases with dealt or received damage. Once full, press Y (default keybind) to activate Shikai, which ends when you run out of Reiatsu or release the key.
Your Shikai Mastery Level depends on the Mastery Points you earn by using Shikai Skills. A higher Mastery Level means less Rage spent during active use, and each level grants different aura effects and visual changes.
Mastery Level 1: 1-149 Points. Grants Transparent Aura.
Mastery Level 2: 150-299 Points. Grants a brighter aura with particles.
Mastery Level 3: 300-499 Points. Grants a Lightning boost.
Mastery Level 4: 500+ Points. Grants a zone of flying stones around you.
Once you choose to be a Soul Reaper, the Hollow path is closed—unless you become a Visored. At level 50, you can unlock the Vizard fighting style at the Vizard’s Warehouse. Visoreds are Shinigami with Hollow powers, a concept from the Bleach canon.

To become a Visored, you'll need Hogyoku, an orb that breaks the barriers between Hollow and Shinigami. Obtain Hogyoku by defeating the King of Hueco Mundo, though be prepared for a 1% drop rate. This step is just the beginning of your Visored progression.
As a Visored, you gain Mask Control to resist Hollow control and extend mask-wear time with the Visored node, boosting your damage output.

Hollow Mask: Allows you to control your inner Hollow and wear the mask at will.
Cero: Charges a beam of Reiatsu, dealing significant damage.
Final Cero: Pins enemies down and crushes them with a powerful Cero from above.
Vasto Rage: Transforms you into the mightiest Hollow type for a limited time, unleashing your full potential.
Currently, Bankai is not available in Hollow Era. However, given the game's popularity, it's likely to be added in future updates. No release date has been confirmed yet, so stay tuned for updates.
If combat disorients you, use the lockup button to focus on your primary target. This can be a lifesaver, especially in buggy or laggy scenarios where you're stuck but not taking damage.
Learn how to block enemy attacks quickly; even low-level enemies can deal significant damage, and your health doesn't regenerate fast enough.
Dying means losing some money, but the real hassle is trekking back to your latest quest. Invest in bus teleport if possible; it's worth the coins.
When allocating Skill Points, prioritize Strength and Speed initially for better damage output and mobility.
In Karakura, press and hold J (default keybind) to reveal all markers using your Reiatsu sense.
If repetitive tasks frustrate you, the Shinigami path might be preferable over Hollows, which can become tedious.
