Shigeru Miyamoto Views Nintendo as a Talent Agency with Many Talented Characters

Author:Kristen Update:May 28,2025

In May of 2015, Nintendo boldly announced a partnership with Universal Parks & Resorts to bring their beloved games and characters to life in a new way—through theme parks. This strategic move aimed to expand Nintendo's entertainment footprint into uncharted territories. Fast forward a decade, and this vision has materialized into Super Nintendo World, a dynamic and immersive theme park experience. From Japan to Los Angeles, and now in Florida with an upcoming expansion to Singapore, these parks are filled with thrilling rides, interactive adventures, themed gift shops, and dining experiences that celebrate Nintendo's iconic characters.

As we approach the launch of Universal's Epic Universe theme park in Orlando, Florida, and the exciting addition of the first-ever Donkey Kong Country expansion in America, I had the privilege of sitting down with Shigeru Miyamoto, the legendary game designer behind Super Mario, Donkey Kong, and many other beloved characters. In our conversation, Miyamoto shared insights on the development of these theme parks, his collaboration with the next generation of Nintendo game developers, and his enthusiasm for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console.
