Ryan Reynolds Pitches Bold R-Rated Star Wars Concept to Disney

Author:Kristen Update:Sep 20,2025

Ryan Reynolds revealed he proposed an R-rated Star Wars project to Disney, though its future remains uncertain.

The Deadpool star discussed his non-Marvel ventures during an interview on The Box Office Podcast. While he didn’t clarify whether Disney greenlit the idea or if it would be a film or series, Reynolds shared insights into his vision for the project.

“I pitched Disney an R-rated Star Wars concept,” Reynolds explained. “It wouldn’t focus on major characters but explore a diverse range of figures. R-rated doesn’t mean crude—it’s a way to bring deeper emotion. I’m surprised studios don’t take more risks like this.”

Reynolds has a strong track record with R-rated films, starring in three of the top-five highest-grossing R-rated movies ever: Deadpool, Deadpool 2, and Deadpool & Wolverine. The latter, a 2024 Marvel hit co-starring Hugh Jackman, holds the record as the highest-grossing R-rated film, earning over $1.3 billion, according to Box Office Mojo.

“I wouldn’t want to star in it; that wouldn’t suit me,” Reynolds noted. “I’d rather produce or write, staying behind the scenes. Star Wars thrives on rarity and surprise. While Disney+ keeps the franchise active, there’s still room to captivate audiences.”
