If you've ever doubted that *Rune Slayer* is a true MMORPG, the inclusion of fishing should put that debate to rest—every MMORPG worth its salt has fishing, right? Jokes aside, if you're keen to dive into the fishing mechanics of *Rune Slayer*, you're in the right place. We struggled at first too, but we've got the hang of it now and are here to guide you through catching fish in *Rune Slayer*. Spoiler Alert: It's not quite as straightforward as in *Fisch*.

Before you start reeling in the big ones, make sure to **accept the fishing quest from Simon the Fisherman**. You'll find this white-haired NPC at one of the piers where the Baracuda swims. Simon's task for you is to catch 5 "fish," and in return, he'll reward you with a Tackle Box. The quotation marks around "fish" hint at a twist we'll uncover shortly.
Here's where it gets interesting: **to catch these fish, you'll need a fishing rod and some bait or tackle**. Conveniently, Simon the Fisherman has you covered, selling exactly what you need.

So, **purchase a Wood Fishing Rod and some Worms from Simon**. Most players suggest stocking up on at least 5 worms, but we went with 10 to be safe. **Don't worry about equipping the bait**; just having Worms in your inventory is enough. They'll be automatically used up as you catch fish, one Worm per catch.
Here's a crucial point: **you won't catch anything without at least 5 bait items**. We tried with just one Worm and came up empty-handed. It was only after we had 5 Worms that we started seeing results. We recommend placing the Worms in your hotbar to easily keep track of your bait. Once you're set, you're ready to move on to the next step.

First, **select your Wood Fishing Rod**. You won't equip it in the traditional sense; simply move it to your hotbar or select it from your inventory, and your character will ready it.
**Hold M1 to cast your line into a body of water**—the pier near Simon the Fisherman works well.
Keep an eye on the bobber. When you see **one or two ripples**, **click M1 again to reel in your catch**. It's that simple.
Bear in mind, **this method isn't foolproof**. Often, you'll come up empty, and sometimes you'll pull in junk instead of fish. But here's the good news: **Simon counts junk as a valid catch**—hence the earlier quotation marks around "fish."
So, your goal is to cast your line, wait for the ripples, hit M1, and reel in anything five times. We managed to catch only two actual fish; the rest were Old Cups.

**Once you've caught 5 "fish," return to Simon the Fisherman to complete the quest**. He'll reward you with a tackle box. Open it and transfer your remaining worms inside to free up your inventory space for more important gear.
And there you have it—the art of fishing in *Rune Slayer*. Enjoy your time on the water, and if you need more guidance, don't forget to check out **The Ultimate Beginner's Guide to *Rune Slayer***.
