PlayStation Stars Program Ends After Three Years

Author:Kristen Update:May 23,2025

Sony has made the decision to terminate its PlayStation Stars loyalty program, a mere three years following its debut. As of today, the program is no longer welcoming new members, and current members who choose to exit will find their membership doors closed permanently, with all accumulated reward points being deleted upon cancellation.

For those who remain members, the opportunity to earn points will persist until July 23, 2025. Moreover, any remaining points can be redeemed up until November 3, 2026, giving members ample time to utilize their rewards.

Despite the program's termination, Sony assures that PlayStation Stars' Digital Collectibles, such as the 3D digital model of a Jim Ryan bobblehead, will remain accessible for the foreseeable future, allowing fans to continue enjoying these unique digital items.

Grace Chen, PlayStation's Vice President of Network Advertising, Loyalty, and Licensed Merchandise, shared insights on the PlayStation blog, stating, "Since launching the program, we've learned a lot from evaluating the types of activities our players respond best to, and as a company, we are always evolving with player and industry trends. Through this evaluation, we have decided to refocus our efforts and will be winding down the current version of PlayStation Stars. We will continue to evaluate our key findings from this program, and are looking into ways to build upon these learnings."

Sony has not disclosed any plans for a replacement scheme or detailed the specific findings from running PlayStation Stars. This leaves many questions unanswered regarding future loyalty initiatives from Sony.

PlayStation Stars was introduced in July 2022, aiming to reward PS5 owners for their engagement. The program offered points with real cash value based on purchases made in the PlayStation Store, as well as for completing various tasks like surveys or exploring different games and system features.

Competing with Microsoft's Xbox Rewards, PlayStation Stars saw several modifications over time, including a reduction in the profitability for members. The service faced a month-long hiatus last summer, and in October, Sony announced changes such as the reduction of the points expiration period from 24 months to 12 months, and the exclusion of PlayStation Plus membership as a points-eligible purchase. Now, the entire program is set to be discontinued.
