Peacemaker Season 2: Release Date and New Footage Revealed

DC Studios head James Gunn has exciting news for fans, confirming that Peacemaker Season 2 will premiere on Max on August 21. In a recent tweet, Gunn shared his enthusiasm, describing the Season 2 premiere as "one of my favorite things ever." Accompanying the announcement was a brief clip featuring John Cena in action, complete with a smirk directed at the camera amidst a backdrop of flames. In the footage, Peacemaker is referred to as "a superhero now."

This release follows closely on the heels of the July 11 premiere of Superman, marking the official launch of Gunn's rebooted DC Universe (DCU). Peacemaker Season 2 will be the third installment in this new universe, following the Creature Commandos TV series from last year and the upcoming Superman film this summer.

Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran are steering the DCU away from the criticized DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. However, certain elements from the DCEU will carry over into the new DCU. Peacemaker serves as a prime example of this transition, having debuted in the DCEU with its first season and now continuing in the new DCU with its second.

Gunn has emphasized that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," though specifics on what will transition from the DCEU to the DCU remain undisclosed. He has confirmed that the entire Team Peacemaker will return with the original cast, including John Cena as Peacemaker, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.

Additionally, Gunn has noted that Peacemaker Season 2 will be set after the events of both Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's events directly impacting Peacemaker's storyline.
