The prospect of Overwatch coming to mobile devices has often felt like a distant dream, particularly after Jason Schreier's book shed light on Blizzard's shelved mobile project. However, a recent deal between Korean developer Nexon and Blizzard could reignite hopes for an Overwatch mobile release.

The core of this agreement centers on the publishing and development rights for a new entry in the revered StarCraft real-time strategy franchise. The competition was intense, with other companies like Krafton and Netmarble showing interest. Should this deal be confirmed, Nexon will take the helm for future StarCraft releases.

What has caught the attention of many, though, are the reports that the deal also encompasses the publishing rights for an Overwatch mobile version. This development not only suggests that the mobile port is far from dead but hints at the possibility of an official sequel in the form of a MOBA.

Overwatch has previously dipped its toes into the MOBA genre with Blizzard's Heroes of the Storm, which was heavily promoted in its heyday. It's conceivable that the proposed Overwatch MOBA could be a mobile version of Heroes of the Storm. Yet, there's also a chance this could be a brand-new spin-off, distinct from the main Overwatch series. It's safe to say, however, that the idea of an 'Overwatch 3' can be set aside, as such a move would represent a significant shift for a franchise traditionally focused on console and PC platforms.
