"Switch 2 Adds Joy-Con Mouse Controls"

Author:Kristen Update:Nov 05,2025

Nintendo has officially revealed that the Joy-Con mouse controls will be functional on the Switch 2's Home screen.

Since the announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2, speculation has surrounded the capabilities of the new Joy-Con's mouse controls. Last month, Nintendo confirmed the existence of a dedicated "mouse mode," allowing users to slide the controllers on surfaces while using the analog sticks for left and right clicks, mimicking a traditional mouse. Players can even use two Joy-Con simultaneously—one in each hand—or combine mouse mode with standard controls.

Further details have emerged thanks to a demonstration on the Nintendo Today app, later shared on X/Twitter, confirming that Joy-Con 2 mouse navigation extends to the Switch 2's Home menu.

According to Nintendo, placing the Joy-Con 2 face-down on a surface triggers an on-screen cursor. "For cursor activation, rest the controller on a flat surface and move it as demonstrated," the company explained.

"While in mouse mode, tilting the control stick allows menu navigation," Nintendo added. "Mouse controls work seamlessly on the Home screen and supported software." Returning to thumbstick usage is as simple as repositioning the Joy-Con horizontally.

While the full list of mouse-compatible games remains undisclosed, Nintendo has demonstrated the feature with Switch 2 versions of Mario Party Jamboree and Metroid Prime 4, as well as the sports title Drag x Drive.
