MultiVersus Updates Delight Players, sparking #SaveMultiVersus Movement

Author:Kristen Update:Feb 18,2025

MultiVersus' impending shutdown in May, following the conclusion of Season 5, hasn't dampened player enthusiasm. A recent update dramatically increased combat speed, a change long-requested by the community, leading to a surge in gameplay enjoyment and a social media campaign, #SaveMultiVersus.

The game's final season, launched February 4th, introduced Aquaman and Lola Bunny as the last playable characters. However, the significant gameplay overhaul overshadowed the bittersweet farewell. The faster pace, a marked departure from the slower, "floaty" gameplay criticized during the 2022 beta and even the 2024 relaunch, is a fundamental shift.

A Season 5 Combat Changes Preview video highlighted the speed increase, attributed to reduced hitpause across most attacks. Patch notes detail specific character adjustments, enhancing the speed of characters like Morty, LeBron, and Bugs Bunny. Garnet's adjustments aim to balance her already high speed.

This revitalized gameplay has transformed MultiVersus, offering players far more than just new characters. The irony is palpable; the game reaches peak enjoyment just as it's slated for closure on May 30th. This will end seasonal content and remove the game from digital stores, leaving only offline modes.

The sudden improvement has left fans both elated and devastated. Comments across social media reflect this sentiment, with one user calling it "the most interesting bad game in existence," highlighting its troubled launch, relaunch, and final gameplay enhancement. Professional player Mew2King questioned the timing of the speed increase. Reddit users echoed similar sentiments, lamenting the lost potential had this update been implemented earlier. Many praised the update for fixing numerous issues, resulting in a polished and improved experience. Despite the confirmed shutdown, hope remains that Warner Bros. might reverse course.

Despite the outpouring of player support and the improved gameplay, Player First and Warner Bros. remain committed to the shutdown. Real-money transactions were disabled on January 31st, and the Season 5 premium battle pass is free. MultiVersus' final sunset is scheduled for 9 am PT on May 30th. While the game's future is bleak, the community finds solace in celebrating its final, improved iteration through memes and online discussions. It's a bittersweet ending, a testament to a game that finally fulfilled its potential just as it was about to disappear.
