Metaphor Seeks Series Status: Director's Ambitions Revealed

Hashino, when discussing Atlus' future plans, expressed interest in developing a game set during Japan's Sengoku period. He envisions this historical setting as ideal for a new Japanese role-playing game, potentially inspired by the Basara series.

Currently, there are no concrete plans to create a Metaphor: ReFantazio sequel. However, Hashino is committed to seeing the current project through to its completion. He revealed that the game was initially conceived as the third major JRPG series for Atlus, following Persona and Shin Megami Tensei, and aims for it to become a flagship title.

While a direct sequel is unlikely, Atlus is already developing its next project. An anime adaptation of Metaphor: ReFantazio is also under consideration. The game itself has been a remarkable success for Atlus, achieving its most successful platform launch to date.

Metaphor: ReFantazio has already peaked at over 85,961 concurrent players, surpassing the concurrent player counts of Persona 5 Royal (35,474) and Persona 3 Reload (45,002). The game is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
