Marvel Rivals Season 2.5 Updates

The Rise of Ultron

Marvel Rivals is set to shake things up with Season 2.5, introducing the formidable Ultron as a new playable hero. NetEase Games shared the news via a Twitter (X) post on May 23, confirming Ultron's arrival on May 30 post-maintenance.

According to Marvel Rivals’ Dev Vision Vol. 06, Ultron steps into the game as a Strategist, bringing unique capabilities to the battlefield. His primary weapon and unparalleled ability to fly open up exciting new aerial strategies. Ultron's near-infinite range on basic attacks unleashes three low-damage bursts, culminating in a powerful high-damage attack.

Moreover, Ultron's healing prowess is activated by attaching a drone to his allies, which can also overheal the attached hero and nearby teammates. His Ultimate ability not only inflicts damage but also heals allies within the targeted zone.

This update also unveils Ultron's new X-Tron skin, inspired by his takeover of Cerebro, alongside Groot's Norse Mythology-themed Yggroot skin. Both skins will be available after the Season 2.5 maintenance, though pricing details and bundle information are yet to be disclosed by NetEase.

Season 2.5 Coming on May 30

Mark your calendars for May 30, as Marvel Rivals gears up for Season 2.5 with a maintenance update scheduled to last 2-3 hours, starting at 2 AM PDT / 9 AM UTC. Here's a handy timetable to see when the update kicks off in your region:

This update includes crucial balance adjustments for various heroes, such as a reduction in Captain America's health, a slight damage boost for Doctor Strange, and an extended range for Emma Frost, among others. These tweaks aim to address the current "dive meta," where aggressive heroes like Iron Fist and Psylocke dominate by quickly engaging and eliminating key targets.

Following the Hellfire Gala Krakoa map, Season 2.5 introduces the Arrako map, the sister-island of Krakoa. After Ultron's attack on Hellfire Gala, he has retreated to Arrako, prompting heroes to rally with Krakoa to reclaim it.

Additionally, the Cerebro Database season event returns, offering players a chance to earn the free Hawkeye – Binary Arrow costume. The event runs from May 30 at 9:00 AM UTC to June 27, with various missions leading to diverse rewards.

A thrilling new experimental mode, "Ultron’s Battle Matrix Protocol," launches on June 6. In this mode, six players can select their heroes, craft unique builds, and enhance traits to battle against others for victory. Guangguang describes it as a "streamlined, strategic, numerical-based solo tactical play," reminiscent of auto-chess modes like Teamfight Tactics and Hearthstone Battlegrounds.

Looking ahead, NetEase announced that starting with Season 3, the duration of seasons will be shortened from 3 months to 2, and new heroes will be released monthly instead of bi-seasonally, as stated during their Dev. Vision Vol. 05 on April 4.

Marvel Rivals continues to evolve, adding Ultron to its roster and refining gameplay with numerous balance adjustments. The introduction of the new experimental mode aims to broaden its appeal.
