Martin Hints at Elden Ring Movie Adaptation

George R.R. Martin has hinted at a potential Elden Ring movie, but his involvement hinges on a significant factor: completing The Winds of Winter. The Game of Thrones author's world-building contributions were crucial to the game's success, a fact highlighted in promotional materials and the game's opening credits, which credit both FromSoftware's Hidetaka Miyazaki and Martin.

While dodging questions about a potential Elden Ring 2, Martin confirmed discussions about an Elden Ring film adaptation during IGN Fan Fest 2025. This isn't the first such suggestion; FromSoftware's president, Miyazaki, has previously expressed openness to an adaptation, but only with a strong partner to handle the project's production. Miyazaki acknowledged FromSoftware lacks the expertise for such a different medium.

However, Martin's commitment to finishing The Winds of Winter, the long-awaited sixth book in his A Song of Ice and Fire series, presents a challenge. He candidly admitted his significant delay, jokingly acknowledging the numerous "obituaries" written about the book's completion. This delay, spanning over a decade since the last book's release in 2011, directly impacts his availability for other projects, including a potential Elden Ring movie.

Martin detailed his collaboration with FromSoftware, explaining his role in creating the game's rich backstory. He provided concepts for the world's history, magic, and runes, working closely with the team over several sessions. Subsequently, FromSoftware would incorporate his ideas into their development process. Martin confirmed that much of his world-building remains unused, suggesting ample material for future projects.
