Larian Reveals New Subclasses for Baldur

While many fans believed that Patch 7 would mark the end of major updates for Baldur's Gate 3, Larian Studios has exciting news: another substantial update is slated for release in 2025. This update promises to enhance the game with crossplay support, a photo mode, and the introduction of 12 new subclasses, each bringing unique mechanics to enrich your gameplay experience.

We've already shared details about four of these subclasses, and now, let's dive into the fascinating mechanics of the remaining ones:

Oath of the Crown Paladin

The Oath of the Crown Paladin is dedicated to upholding justice and order, prioritizing the welfare of society above all else. This subclass introduces the powerful Divine Devotion ability, which not only absorbs incoming damage directed at allies but also restores their health in the process. This makes the Oath of the Crown Paladin a crucial protector on the battlefield, ensuring that your party remains strong and resilient.

Arcane Archer

Combining martial prowess with arcane magic, the Arcane Archer wields enchanted arrows that can blind, weaken, or even exile enemies to the Feywild until the next turn. What sets this subclass apart is its ability to adjust the flight path of a missed arrow, allowing it to strike another enemy. This strategic advantage can turn the tide of battle, making the Arcane Archer a formidable force on any battlefield.

Drunken Master Monk

The Drunken Master Monk incorporates alcohol into their fighting techniques, using it as a tool to disorient foes and enhance their own abilities. Their signature move intoxicates enemies, leaving them vulnerable and disoriented. The monk can then utilize Instant Sobriety on an intoxicated target, dealing both physical and mental damage. This unique approach to combat adds a layer of unpredictability and excitement to encounters.

Swarmkeeper Ranger

Harnessing the power of nature, the Swarmkeeper Ranger forms alliances with swarms of creatures to bolster their abilities in combat. These swarms not only shield the ranger from harm but also assist with teleportation, providing tactical advantages on the battlefield. In combat, the ranger can deploy three types of swarms: electric jellyfish clusters, blinding moth clouds, and stinging bee legions. The latter can knock back enemies who fail a strength check by an impressive 4.5 meters, adding a dynamic element to your combat strategy.

With these new subclasses, Baldur's Gate 3 is set to offer even more depth and variety to its already rich gameplay. Stay tuned for more details as we approach the 2025 update, and prepare to explore these exciting new mechanics that will redefine your adventures in the world of Faerûn.
