Hunter Overhaul Coming in World of Warcraft 11.1

Author:Kristen Update:Dec 25,2024

World of Warcraft Patch 11.1 brings significant Hunter class changes, impacting pet management and specializations. Key updates include customizable pet specializations, a Beast Mastery option for a single, enhanced pet, and the complete removal of pets for Marksmanship Hunters, who will instead utilize a Spotting Eagle. These changes, subject to player feedback during the PTR testing phase early next year, are expected to launch with Patch 11.1, possibly in February.

Patch 11.1, titled "Undermined," introduces a new raid, "Liberation of Undermine," set in the Goblin capital. This continues the "War Within" storyline, culminating in a confrontation with Chrome King Gallywix.

Hunter class changes are substantial. The ability to switch pet specializations (Cunning, Ferocity, or Tenacity) at the stables is a welcome addition, impacting all companions, even those from events like the Dreaming Festive Reindeer. Significant specialization adjustments include the Marksmanship rework, eliminating the pet in favor of a Spotting Eagle that marks targets for increased damage. Beast Mastery now offers a single-pet option, boosting pet damage and size. The Pack Leader talent is also revamped, summoning a bear, boar, and wyvern.

Community reaction is mixed. While the pet specialization and solo-pet Beast Mastery options are popular, the Marksmanship rework is controversial. The Spotting Eagle concept is understood, but many feel losing the pet diminishes the core Hunter experience. The forced bear/boar/wyvern combination in Pack Leader is also criticized.

These changes are still subject to revision. PTR testing early next year allows players to provide feedback to Blizzard before the final release. Hunters are encouraged to actively participate.
