The Honkai series began with Honkai Impact 3rd, a free-to-play mobile action RPG considered the spiritual successor to Houkai Gakuen 2, a 2D side-scrolling shooter. In 2023, HoYoverse launched Honkai Star Rail, a free-to-play mobile game featuring turn-based combat.
