Homelander and Omni-Man to Feature Unique Movesets in MK1

In an insightful interview at Gamescom, Mortal Kombat co-founder Ed Boon shed light on how NetherRealm Studios plans to distinguish between the iconic characters Homelander and Omni-Man in the upcoming Mortal Kombat 1. Boon, addressing fan concerns about potential similarities in combat styles, emphasized the team's commitment to creating unique experiences for each character.

Boon highlighted the creative freedom the team has been granted to explore various ideas for these characters. He assured fans that they would avoid scenarios where Homelander and Omni-Man share similar Superman-like abilities, such as heat vision. "Obviously, we could do anything with the characters, but I don’t think we’re going to have both Homelander and Omni-Man have heat vision or something like that," Boon stated, underlining the team's approach to differentiation.

Further, Boon explained how the developers drew inspiration from the actions of these heroes in their respective shows, translating those into distinct Fatalities within the game. He stressed that the core attacks of Homelander and Omni-Man will be markedly different, directly addressing assumptions that the two might be too similar. "They’re definitely going to play differently. The main attacks are going to really differentiate them, but we’re definitely aware of the assumption that some people were making on, ‘Oh, they’re just going to be the same characters,'" Boon noted, ensuring players that each character would offer a unique gameplay experience.
