League of Legends is responding to fan feedback by reintroducing Hextech Chests in an upcoming update. Dive in to discover what changes are coming to LoL and what the future holds for the game.
Following an outpouring of community feedback, League of Legends (LoL) is set to reintroduce Hextech Chests. Riot Games announced this decision in a developer update on their website on February 27, 2025, and further elaborated in a video on their YouTube channel.
Riot acknowledged that their recent alterations didn't resonate well with the player base, stating, "Recently, we’ve made a number of changes that didn’t hit the mark for everyone. We’ve been listening to your feedback, and it’s clear that there are areas where we need to adjust."
The community's attachment to Hextech Chests was particularly strong, with Riot admitting, "It’s clear that for many of you, Hextech Chests weren’t just a way to get stuff, they were an important part of making your time in League feel rewarding. We didn’t fully grasp how much this mattered to you, and that led us to make changes that missed the mark."
Starting with patch 25.05, Hextech Chests will return, allowing players to earn up to 10 chests and keys per act. Eight of these will be available through the free pass, with the remaining two obtainable via the Honor system.
Riot Games has also delayed the release of the Exalted Mordekaiser skin, aiming to enhance its thematic elements. The entire Exalted skin line will see a delay, meaning fans won't get a new skin every Act this year as originally planned.
In response to further community feedback, LoL will replace one non-Prestige skin with 25 Mythic Essence on the paid Pass, addressing concerns about the scarcity of Mythic Essence and the frequency of new champion skins.
To improve accessibility, LoL will reduce the Blue Essence cost for all champions by 50% starting with patch 25.05, responding to ongoing discussions about blue essence and champion shards.
Additionally, Riot has decided to revert their earlier plan to reduce the frequency of Clash events. They will maintain a monthly schedule, with March's event featuring ARURF and a standard Summoner's Rift Clash in April.
Responding to community requests, LoL will bring back the Blue Essence Emporium and Your Shop. Your Shop is scheduled for patch 25.06, and the Emporium will follow in patch 25.07.
Riot Games emphasized their commitment to continuous improvement, stating, "We know getting League to the right place isn’t about just one set of changes. It’s about continually refining and improving the game in ways that make it better. We think today’s updates are an important step, and we’ll keep tracking how these changes feel, talking with all of you about how things are landing, and making adjustments."
With these updates, it's evident that Riot Games is actively listening to their community, striving to enhance the gaming experience in League of Legends. The game remains available for free-to-play on PC. For the latest updates and more information, visit our League of Legends page.
