GTA 6 Trailer 2: PS5, Xbox Release Confirmed, No PC Mention

The much-anticipated release of the Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 2, coupled with significant updates to the official website, has turned the spotlight onto the launch platforms and the new release date set for May 26, 2026. At the trailer's conclusion, the release date is prominently displayed alongside the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, confirming that these consoles will be part of GTA 6’s initial launch. Notably, Trailer 2 was captured on a PS5, specifically mentioned as such, rather than the PS5 Pro.

This focus on console platforms has sparked discussions and speculation about the potential release of GTA 6 on other platforms, such as PC or even the rumored Nintendo Switch 2. Some fans had hoped that the game's delay to May 2026 might prompt Rockstar and its parent company, Take-Two, to reconsider their strategy and opt for a simultaneous release on PC. However, the absence of any mention of a PC version in the trailer suggests that Rockstar may adhere to its traditional staggered release approach.

This omission aligns with Rockstar’s historical strategy but feels increasingly outdated, especially given the growing significance of the PC market for multiplatform games. IGN posed the question of whether this strategy might be a missed opportunity to Take-Two's CEO, Strauss Zelnick, during an interview in February. Zelnick hinted at GTA 6’s eventual release on PC, drawing parallels with other titles in their lineup like Civilization 7, which launched simultaneously on console, PC, and Switch. He noted, "Historically, Rockstar has started with some platforms and then historically moved to other platforms."

Rockstar's fans have long observed the studio's reluctance to release games on PC simultaneously with console versions, alongside its complex relationship with the modding community. Despite these patterns, there was hope that GTA 6, given its monumental scale, might represent a shift in Rockstar's approach to PC gaming. The question of when PC gamers can expect GTA 6 remains open—potentially in late 2026, early 2027, or even later.

In December 2023, a former Rockstar developer attempted to justify the delayed PC release, urging PC gamers to give the studio the "benefit of the doubt." Yet, the potential missed opportunity of not launching on PC simultaneously is significant, as Zelnick mentioned to IGN that PC versions can account for up to 40% of a game's total sales, or even more in some cases. He emphasized the increasing importance of the PC platform, stating, "We have seen PC become a much more and more important part of what used to be a console business, and I wouldn't be surprised to see that trend continue."

As for the Nintendo Switch 2, its absence from GTA 6 Trailer 2 was not unexpected. Although the capabilities of the Switch 2 are still unknown, it is slated to run Cyberpunk 2077, raising hopes that GTA 6, which is set to launch on the less powerful Xbox Series S, might also be compatible with Nintendo’s next-generation console.
