Unlike many recent entries in the Dynasty Warriors franchise, Dynasty Warriors: Origins does not feature an open world. This departure from the open-world design of Dynasty Warriors 9, which was widely criticized for its empty expanse, is a welcome change for many fans.
The game instead utilizes a condensed overworld map of ancient China. This smaller map allows players to quickly travel between towns to acquire weapons, items, and rest at inns. While a fast travel option exists, the map's diminutive size renders it largely unnecessary. This streamlined approach allows players to focus on the core gameplay loop, engaging in side quests, collecting items like Pyroxene and Old Coins, participating in optional battles, and progressing the storyline through cutscenes. This system, while perhaps unambitious, avoids the pitfalls of a large, empty open world.
Dynasty Warriors: Origins is currently available on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
